A-Z of Life – Energy

energyEnergy!

Sometimes don’t you wish you could just jump out of bed at 5 in the morning full of vim and vigour ready to start the day, instead of hitting the snooze button for just a few moments longer whilst you go back to that wonderful dream?

But that’s not really the type of energy I’m talking about.

I’m talking about the life energy you give off in your daily lives.

It is said that we are but mirror images of our innermost thoughts and that we receive what we give.

Sounds crazy, right?

Think about it though.

We’ve all had one of ‘those’ days – you know the one where anything that could go wrong … goes wrong!

Is it just because we’ve run into a spell of bad luck, or is it merely that one stroke of misfortune has turned your life energy for the day from positive to negative and so nothing seems to go right afterwards?

So, thinking forward from that one unfortunate incident, if we let that mar our thoughts then we are emitting nothing but negative energy and therefore will attract more negativity into our lives.

Thinking about it another way – have you ever been out with friends and one friend has done nothing but moan and whine about how awful things are, etc.?   Don’t you feel exhausted after leaving? That’s the result of all your positive energy being drained by so much negativity.

I will admit to doing my fair share of whining … in the past (and I most definitely mean in the past) and now I actually can feel positive energy being sucked out of me if someone is doing nothing but moaning (my crystals are definitely earning their keep in the house I can tell you – sometimes it’s Moan Central!) and I have to either meditate or stroll outside to reconnect my positive energy with the universe. (OMG! Now I sound like some complete nut-job!)

And with all those negative vibes you are emitting you will attract other people on the same negative wavelength – don’t I know that! (But moving swiftly on …)

As you know I’ve crossed the stream from negative to positive over the last couple of years and let me tell you life has never felt so good.

Just by thinking that cup is always full, being grateful and thankful for each and day, thinking positively about every situation that life throws at me (even if it’s not that positive I just flip it to make it so) and generally having a much rosier outlook on life (and that doesn’t necessarily mean looking through rose-tinted glasses) life is exciting.

Life is an adventure.

Life is always full of surprises.

So next time life throws you a bum-deal, try not to get down, just try to think of a positive about the situation and your day will get infinitely better.

As they say “one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.”

So smile 😉

Love is … like riding a bicycle

…on a bicycle made for 2!on_a_bicycle_made_for_two_by_saya1984-d35dr83

Riding a bicycle is great – in the country, sun shining, the open road, no traffic – although I do prefer bikes with engines 😉

With 2 of you, it’s even better. You can each take a break when weary and let the other take up the slack.

When you get to the steep hills that you would never get up alone, it’s much better to share the journey uphill with someone else and work together to conquer the mountain.

And when you get to the top, what could be better than free-wheeling down the other side?

Out of the Mouthes of Babes – “I Don’t Want to Grow Up!”

SC’s had a pretty rotten couple of weeks. He has been having a little trouble at school – some of it of his own making I admit.peter pan

Anyway, he was in the car the other night after a particularly horrendous day and he blurted out, “Mummy, I don’t like life!”

What, it transpired, he actually meant was that he didn’t like school – so obviously I had to tell him that all schools would be the same and that there would be nice children and not-so-nice children, just like where he is at the moment, but they would just have different names and faces. (Whilst I was saying it I was having a memory flash of my mum saying exactly the same to me, when I wanted to move house and change schools!)

And because he is just like me, in pretty much every aspect, it has obviously been playing on his mind. He woke up very early this morning (and when I say very, I actually mean stupidly early, like 3am!) complaining of tummy ache.

He said the tummy ache came and went, and “it feels like I’m going to vomit, but I’m not!” (translate to mean “I feel nauseous”). By 6am he was doubled in pain, so I called the doctor and made an appointment (very panicky mum thinking it was appendicitis – it wasn’t, it was just stress – he did exactly the same as I do, sore tummy, throw up bile, feel better!)

As he lay in bed cuddled up to me with a hot water bottle on his tummy he suddenly, out of the blue said “Mummy, I don’t want to grow up!”

“It’s OK darling,” I said, “I didn’t either. I always wanted to be 4 for ever. We can’t do anything to stop it unfortunately, but we can always be young in our hearts and minds!”

Growing up is tough, being a grown up is tough, but at the end of the day it’s all a journey!

It would be nice to live in Neverland though 😉

How many miles?

I’ve been driving about quite a lot this summer holiday and a curious phenomenon has revealed itself to me.milestone

I’ve decided, there is a distinct difference between a mile driving in town and a mile driven in the country. Whereby, the country mile is much longer than the town mile!

Now, this could just be because signs are more frequent in towns, but when I have been driving in the deepest darkest countryside, I swear I drive more than a mile and yet when I reach the next sign, my destination is just as far away, or only ½ a mile nearer.

Is it just me that finds this?

Do You Believe in Destiny?

Do you believe that somewhere, out there, in the grand scheme of things your destiny is all mapped out for you?

Do we arrive at points in our life through our own choices, or because it is our destiny?

I believe in destiny.

I believe that whatever choices we make in life, ultimately we will end up where we were meant to – sometimes it just takes a little longer, if we take a detour!

I don’t know who decides our destiny, but I do believe that whatever our journey through life, be it fraught with difficulties or a walk in the park, it is a journey we are given because we can handle it.

I was told once that we are given the life we can handle.

I like to think of that when I am feeling low and feel that the world is against me, it gives me hope and courage to continue and the belief that I am strong enough to handle anything.

The A-Z of Life – Unknown

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown!” (Supernatural Horror in Literature by HP Lovecraft)

“People are supposed to fear the unknown, but ignorance is bliss when knowledge is so damn frightening.”  (The Laughing Corpse, Laurell K Hamilton)

“One is never afraid of the unknown; one is afraid of the known coming to an end.”  (Jiddu Krishnamurti)

“How can you know what you’re capable of if you don’t embrace the unknown?”  (Conquistadora, Esmerelda Santiago)

“It is the unknown that excites the ardour of scholars, who, in the known alone, would shrivel up with boredom.” (Wallace Stevens)

“Even just seconds ahead is unknown; even just seconds after is open to infinite possibilities.”  (Mehmet Murat Ildan)

Every day we wake up to an unknown future.

Sure we know we are going to read the newspaper, go to work, relax with a hobby, but what about the unknown element to life.

We don’t know who we are going to meet who might change our future in some way.

We don’t know what is going to happen that might affect our future in some way.

And sometimes the unknown doesn’t have to be a big global disaster, it can be a simple gesture from a stranger, or a letter that can have the biggest impact on your life.

Do we fear the unknown?

Or do we embrace it?

Patrick Overton in his collection of poems entitled “The Leaning Tree” he wrote “When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen. There will be something solid for you to stand upon or you will be taught to fly.”

Sometimes taking that first step into an unknown future is the scariest thing to do and it is the biggest leap of faith you will ever take.

Things happen in our lives for a reason – be they good or bad.

Destiny, karma, call it what you like.

But we all have to trust that by journeying on into the unknown we are following our personal, and pre-destined passage through life.

We all know where our ultimate destination lies!

Everyone’s destination is the same, but how we get there varies enormously.

But what about ‘unknowns’ of the past?

Things that happen and you just don’t know the real reason behind it.

Sometimes it really is a case of ignorance is bliss, because in some cases knowing the truth could be more painful than just filing it under “unknown”

Love Is … Like Climbing a Mountain

The beginning bit is always the hardest as you try to get in step with your fellow climber.mountain

Sometimes the rhythm just never kicks in and you have to continue up the mountain alone.

Sometimes your fellow climber decides the path is too difficult and just bails on you.

Sometimes your fellow climber decides he’d rather climb another, less tricky mountain.

Sometimes your fellow climber stumbles and you hold out your hand to catch them – whether they decide to grab back is their choice.

Sometimes you stumble and need a steadying hand – your fellow climber may or may not help.

The further up the mountain you travel the climb gets easier as you know how to work together to make the journey.

If you are very lucky, you will find a climber who will make it to the top of the mountain with you.

And when you get there, you can reflect on the journey taken and enjoy the view!

Love is Like – Sailing

… and it’s never plain sailing either.SailingSunset

Some boats never even make it out of the harbour!

Sometimes we journey on a speedboat, and we want to yell out “slow down”, but it’s far too exciting and fun, for a while, before the boat runs out of power and then it stops as abruptly as it started.

Sometimes we get to travel on a luxury yacht and we pinch ourselves to make sure that it’s really true and that we really have made it to ‘first-class’. All too often though we end up as the second-class mate made to scrub the decks, having been replaced by a more suitable first-class mate!

Sometimes we travel in the tug boat behind the cruise liner wishing that just once we could join everyone on the liner and experience what they are, but the tug boat never catches up.

Sometimes we travel on a fishing vessel where the net is spread wide catching everything and anything in its path. It’s a long, arduous task sifting the good fish from the bad fish though!

If we are very lucky we end up on a boat that is going in the direction we want to travel.

All the signals are good, weather fine, course mapped, provisions full.

And when you set sail, you have to learn to work together to get the boat moving in the right direction, otherwise you can veer off course, stand still, or even just go round in circles.

There may be choppy waters or high gales and this is when you have to work hardest to keep the boat on course. If you are on the right boat whatever you encounter the boat stays its course, mind you sometimes the boat gets abandoned quicker than rats deserting the sinking ship!

Once you have navigated the initial tricky passage from harbour, up the estuary and out into the main body of water, the hardest part is over.

All that’s left to do is sail off into the sunset and enjoy all the ‘adventures that wait in the waters off the coast of tomorrow’!

I’ve Done It!

I am a recovering ‘biscuit-a-holic’.Biscuits

It’s been a whole year since my last biscuit.

They were my bete noir, my one temptation, my big bulimic tendency – whenever I felt a bit down, I would reach out for the biscuits and would quite happily munch through near-on a whole packet with a cup of tea.

But no more.

I gave them up for Lent in 2011 and found that pretty easy. So last December – after having one too many – I decided to give them up completely.

Again the stopping was very easy, and then from not having eaten them, my sense of smell underwent a drastic detox.

No longer when I opened the biscuit tin (SC is partial to a Malted Milk) did I smell delicious biscuit smells.

Oh no!

All I could smell when I opened the biscuit tin was the processed fats and sugars.

It took 10 days for the nice smell to go, and gradually over the course of a month the sense of the vile processed smell increased.

And now, a year on, the vile processed smell is still there. It is quite repulsive, and makes me glad I don’t indulge any more.

I can honestly say, that I do not feel the need to have a biscuit and even when I have made them at home with SC I do not feel the urge to eat one.

Biscuit addiction – cured 😉

Love is … like driving

… some people know where they are headed in order to get from A to B.

Some people drive too fast and miss the journey, only to reach the destination, get bored after a while and embark on a new journey.

Some people drive too slowly and carefully and never reach the destination.

Some people take detours to avoid boredom – these detours are always very attractive, but only the very brave will continue off-road. The majority of drivers will return to the safety net of the known route.

Some people are ditherers. They are unsure which direction to take and sometimes miss the right turning. If they are lucky there may be another chance to turn along the way, but only if this is their destined route to take.
