The A-Z of Life – Happiness

We all want to be happy.

Sometimes we just let life get to us, and end up wishing for happiness, wishing our lives were different, wishing our lives were like other people who seem to be so happy.

Happiness takes on many forms – we would be happier if we earned more money, we would be happier if we had what other people had, we would be happier if we could be more successful, etc.

But happiness doesn’t come from outside influences.

Happiness comes from inside.

We are ultimately responsible for our own happiness.

If we cannot be happy with ourselves, then we will never be happy. And it won’t matter how many friends you have, how much money you make, etc.

So how do we become happy?

There seems to be no miracle cure – believe me, I’ve looked, and if there were I’d bottle it and make a fortune 😉

We just have to look at our lives and look for the good not the disappointments, look forward not back.

If we can cling onto one good thought, one time in our lives when we were happy, that surely is a step on to the ladder?

Then if we can be thankful for one thing in our lives each day, slowly we should be able to see a glimmer of light.

I have been at the bottom of the ladder.

I haven’t made it to the top yet, and some days I slip down a few rungs.

But I am happy with who I am – I am by no means perfect, but I am aware of my faults and can live with them 😉

I am happy with my life – it may not be picture perfect like everyone elses appears to be, but I am happy to be alive, with a head full of ideas 😉

I am happy with my state of mind – I try to find the good in everything and everyone 😉

I’m happy to be me 😉

Friday Poem – She Walks in Beauty

A beautiful poem by Lord Byron…beauty

She walks in Beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes:
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

Don’t Doubt – Just Believe!

Sometimes, we all doubt about things.

Anything from something insignificant to big things.

But if we just have a pinch of faith, a dollop of hope and believe … anything is possible 😉

We all make mistakes in our everyday life, both knowingly and unknowingly. Sometimes what we see as a throw-away remark is not met with the same meaning from others.

But by thinking the best of people, maybe, just maybe they might see the best in us as well 😉

Thursday Thought

… from an ancient text.

Well, OK, the King James Standard circa 17th century.

Now, I don’t normally take the little sheet of paper from the church service, but a couple of  passages from the 2 readings on Sunday struck me as summing up the world we live in today:

Mark (8.31-38) – “Those who are ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation…”

James (3) – “For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. …. You want something and do not have it, so you commit murder. And you covet something and cannot obtain it, so you engage in disputes and conflicts.”

Religion causes a lot of problems. I’m not saying one is right above all others, each should be at liberty to have their own faith. At the heart of each faith though is “peace and goodwill” to all, isn’t it?

But it just got me thinking that even now centuries after this was written (supposedly) we live in a world where faith, goodness and loyalty is seen as wrong and violence, destruction and selfishness seen as the good and the answer to everything.

How can we change the world we live in?
