A-Z of Life – Bravery

What does being brave mean to you?pooh

Does it conjure up images of heroic people doing daring feats of rescue?

Or could it be something as simple as just doing something a bit out of your comfort zone?

We may not have to rescue people from burning buildings, or “go over the top” to face the enemy whilst fighting for “king and country”, but many of us face dragons and demons every single day.

And surely that makes us just as brave as when we take a chance on something (or someone) we believe in, stand up to our fears, do something that will make a difference or simply just decide that we will not be beaten.

For years I believed I was fighting so many demons I couldn’t list them all, but in the end I realised that the only reason the demons were there in the first place was because I had put them there, and the only person I was really fighting was me.

So I had to be brave. Somehow I had take that first step to reclaim my own personal power and vanquish the demons forever.

I had to start liking me.

I had to start believing in me again.

And by believing in me, I could start to believe and trust in other people again.

I don’t wish I was brave anymore. I know I am brave. I look at the world with a completely different perspective these days and it is a much sunnier, pleasant place to live.

Life can throw whatever it wants at me, and I’ll be ready to grasp each and every opportunity, or curve ball, and make the most out of them.

A-Z of Life – Motivation

This is a re-blog of one of my A-Z of Life posts – maybe I’ll reblog some more 😉

The encouragement to keep going.fear

The drive to win.

The imagination to dream.

The determination to succeed.

The desire to change.

The wish to fulfil your dreams.

The hunger for knowledge.

The kick up the backside.

The incentive to start.

Whatever, our wishes, dreams, desires or plans we all need a spark of motivation to set off that chain of reactions.

Be it to earn more money, move house, try a new hobby, write that best-selling novel, etc., we all need to find that get up and go to get off our backsides and just do it (to coin a phrase – thanks Nike).

Take me, for example.

I have a folder that I started when I was 17, full of ideas I had for businesses and things I wanted to do.

20-odd years later, it’s still there, untouched, and some small part of me wishes I shouldn’t have left it so long.

Some ideas have been done, successfully by other people, and I think, “that could have been me!” But I was scared of trying.

Self-motivation is very difficult, especially when you let all the monsters of your past still silently dictate and belittle you. You pause before starting and still hear their voices saying that you aren’t good enough, you aren’t clever, you won’t amount to much, you’re a failure, you’re a loser, etc.

I have done that, and it’s very difficult to try to fight these demons alone, because over the years all the taunts, jibes and digs taught me to hate myself, and believe that all the things they threw at me were true.

At the end of the day you are the only person who can change your life and follow your dreams. It’s like dieting – you know you need to lose weight and keep fit, but unless you actually do something about it nothing will change.

It’s taken me a long time to exorcise the demons of long ago and I keep a very positive frame of mind these days. I am happy with where I am and have the desire to improve myself and dreams to fulfill. But there are occasional days when I still panic and think I can’t, and that’s another day lost because of actions of ghosts that haunt me from time gone by.

When you are on your own though, you are the only person who can kick yourself into motion, and you have to keep yourself going to the bitter end, be it failure or success.

And however hard you try to stay positive and rev up that get up and go, sometimes you wish you could have someone else to give you a gentle nudge and whisper “It’s OK, I’m here. Don’t worry – you’ll knock ’em dead!”

So, for anyone who may need a bit of a gentle nudge in the motivation department today, here you go:-

YOU ARE AMAZING! YOU CAN DO ANYTHING YOU SET YOUR MIND TO!

NOW GO GET ‘EM 😉

The A-Z of Life – Ignorance

They say ‘ignorance is bliss’ignorance

But if we turn the proverbial blind eye, pretend not to notice what is happening, think merely that we are imagining things and that everything really is all right, then who are we actually trying to fool?

Ourselves, or the world?

If we carry on fooling ourselves then there must come a point when reality is bound to hit home, and the imaginings become a glaring and stark reality.

If we carry on fooling ourselves for too long then sometimes it may be too late to reverse any situation we may find ourselves in.

If we carry on fooling ourselves and the world who will end up getting more hurt?

We all make mistakes in life, and sometimes even trying to rectify situations doesn’t actually alter the final outcome.

Destiny and fate will ultimately bring us to where we were meant to arrive.

But do we act like the ostrich and bury our heads in the sand, wishing and hoping for a different outcome?

Or do we confront our fears and demons?
